Nandalal is known to have fervently sketched on postcard sized papers mostly using ink and brush, recording his surroundings. In the above study sketch of an insect, the artist has elaborately studied its anatomical detail, showing its interior, posterior along with the execution of few parts in detail. The composition is rendered with linear, bold ink strokes articulating the contours filled with strokes of watercolour resulting in the realistic representation of the insect.
