Nandalal, in his sketches, experimented with the representation of lines to attain texture and add vigour and life to the form of his figures. This sketch portrays a child in a seated position on the floor from the back, with his toy kept aside him. The fluid handling of the line and the smudged ink strokes suggest the modelling of the body and accentuate the rhythm and movement in the form.
