Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, instantly recording in the post card sized papers his subjects from the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life, animals, flora and fauna or anything that he found fascinating. The above sketch by the artist depicts a man carrying a child over his shoulders while he is resting his face on a stick. The composition is rendered with bold, coarse ink strokes articulating the basic contours and suggesting the demeanour of the forms.
