Album No. 11 (A Dog's Study) 7235 Nandalal Bose Charcoal on postcard

×
Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals and birds or anything that he found fascinating. This particular postcard sketch depicts a dog resting, rendered with thick, fluid lines defining the contours of his form. Jaya Appasamy in her article, 'Nandalal- Master Draughtsman' writes of these sketches, "The drawings on postcards have a spontaneity and brevity not seen in more formal works. They exist as evidence of the artist's unceasing desire to master visual data."
