Nandalal understood the significance of the use of lines and experimented frequently in their execution from fine lines to being thick contouring lines. This sketch by him is a portrait of an old man. The fluid handling of the line and the dark ink strokes suggest the contours of the face, highlighting the facial features while the rest of the figure has been rendered in swift, short strokes.
