    Nandalal Bose

Album No. 15 (A Dancing Mudra) 7277 Nandalal Bose Pencil on postcard

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, avidly recording the flora and fauna, the people of the place, their dress, their carriages, the headdress, the landscape, the festivals, and the architecture. The above illustration by him, is a quick rendition of a Kandyan dancer, as he performs wearing traditional attire. It is executed with thick, coarse pencil strokes that suggest the modelling of the form and add rhythm and dynamism to the composition.
