    Nandalal Bose

Album No. 15 (A Dancing Mudra) 7280 Nandalal Bose Pencil on postcard

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, avidly recording the flora and fauna, the people of the place, their dress, their carriages, the headdress, the landscape, the festivals, and the architecture. In his pencil sketches, Nandalal has experimented with the use of lines to add texture, vigour and life to his sketches. The above illustration by him, is a quick rendition of a Kandyan dancer, as he performs wearing traditional attire. It is executed with thick, coarse pencil strokes that suggests the modelling of the form.
