Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, avidly recording the flora and fauna, the people of a place, their dress, their carriages, the headdress, the landscape, the festivals, and the architecture. In this sketch, Nandalal has sketched an old man wearing a mask, sitting on the floor. Probably one of the performers of the Kandyan dance, he has been portrayed in his attire. The artist has rendered the form with thick, coloured pencil strokes depicting the demeanour of the character.
