Album No. 16 (A Portrait Sketch) 7307 Nandalal Bose Pencil on postcard

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The artist understood the significance of the use of lines and experimented frequently in their execution from fine lines to being thick contouring lines. This sketch by him is a portrait of a man. The fluid handling of the line and the smudged pencil strokes suggest the contours of the face, highlighting the facial features and demeanour of the subject.
