Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals and birds or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, Nandalal has depicted a man in sitting on a stool outside his house, sketched in thick fluid lines defining the contours of the forms. The smudged shading over the body probably suggests the dark complexion of the figure.
