Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals and birds or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch Nandalal portrays a mother combing her child hair sitting on a charpai, three children sitting on the ground and a dog sleeping under the charpai. The sketch has been swiftly executed in loose, coarse pencil strokes that suggests the modelling of the form.
