Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has rendered a portrait of Shri Vallabh Bhai Patel with a letter addressing to him in the form of an inscription. The fluid, dark strokes of pencil in the form of shading on the face is adding depth and defining the facial feature of the face.
