Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The above monochrome sketch by Nandalal depicts a cowherd and cows striding through the large grasses and trees. The illustration is swiftly executed with bold pencil strokes, which delineate the contours of the forms and add life and vigour to the composition.
