Nandalal's smaller sketches are testimony of his keenness to observe and his empathy for the environment in which he lived. The above monochrome sketch depicts two women as they walk through a hilly terrain covered with trees and bushes. The artist has executed the illustration with quick pencil strokes, which delineate the contours of the forms and add life and vigour to the composition.
