Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a group of people sitting and engaged in some activity, rendered against the background of a tree. This has been executed in bold, rhythmic ink strokes delineating the forms and adding the sense of movement in the composition.
