The above monochrome illustration by Nandalal is a perceptible representation of the Rajgriha temple surrounded by high mountains and trees. The illustration is executed with fluid brush strokes, harmoniously diluting the ink tones to obtain a variety of shades from grey tones to blacks, a technique Nandalal acquired from the arts of the Far East. The tonal variation lends depth to the composition.
