In this postcard Nandalal has amalgamated distinct geometric and organic patterns to form a variety of designs. This probably is a template for an alpana design (floor and wall decorations made with rice-paste on special occasions and festivals). Nandalal encouraged his students at Santiniketan to participate in alpana making as it was a collective participatory ritual.
