Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man from back, carrying weights on both the sides, across a stick on his shoulders, supporting it with his hands. This has been executed in fluid yet firm, bold strokes of ink, suggesting the modelling of the form and adding grace to the composition.
