Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, instantly recording in the postcard sized papers his subjects from the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life, or anything he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a woman plucking fruits from a tree using stick, rendered with fluid, bold strokes of ink delineating the contours of the figures and suggesting the demeanour of the subject.
