    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8046 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Here Nandalal has rendered a view of Darjeeling, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. He has represented the mountains covered with snow and mist. This painting is one of the landscapes in the monochrome ink wash technique, which shows his inclination towards Chinese and Japanese painting traditions. The wide expanses of snow in the image recall his statement on landscape painting in his book, 'Vision and Creation', 'Landscapes can be painted in the manner of seas, with wavy heaps of stone and earth.'
