    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8050 Nandalal Bose Charcoal on paper

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, his subjects being the surrounding environs, life of people and their everyday chores. His smaller sketches are testimony of Nandalal's keenness to observe and his empathy for the environment in which he lived. Here he has represented a scene of Darjeeling, the hills of the region shrouded in mist. He has utilised the texture of the paper as part of the work by smudging charcoal on it and creating varied tones of gray that lend an impression of haze in the environment.
