    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8056 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Here Nandalal has rendered a view of Darjeeling, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. He has represented its mountains covered in snow and haze while dark patches have been used to indicate the presence of pine trees. This painting is a landscape in the monochrome ink wash technique, which is associated with specific Chinese and Japanese landscape traditions. It also recalls his statement on landscape painting from his book 'Vision and Creation', 'Landscapes can be painted in the manner of seas, with wavy heaps of stone and earth.'
