    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8057 Nandalal Bose Ink on postcard

×
Nandalal has here rendered a view of Darjeeling, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. He has represented some habitation on the wooded mountain side, using a technique he termed 'touch-work', referring to the spontaneous calligraphic strokes that describe the object of the painting. It also recalls his statement on landscape painting from his book, 'Vision and Creation', 'Landscapes can be painted in the manner of seas, with wavy heaps of stone and earth.'
