This painting is one of the landscapes in the monochrome ink wash technique, which is associated with specific Chinese and Japanese landscape traditions. Here, Nandalal has rendered a view of Darjeeling, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. He has represented its mountains covered with snow and haze, using dark patches of ink to show the rocks offset by large swathes of white.
