    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8063 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Nandalal has here rendered a view of Darjeeling in a series of three paintings, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. Nandalal has utilised the tonal variations of black ink with water for creating a recognisable effect of mountains covered with snow and fog. He has also depicted some vegetation on the peaks of the mountains and at the foreground with ink patches in a darker tone. R. Siva Kumar in the book, 'Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose' writes of the artist, "In spite of specificities of location, not all of his drawings were done on location...he gave to works done in the studio the same vividness found in his studies done directly from nature."
