    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 43 8064 Nandalal Bose Ink on postcard

×
In this painting Nandalal has rendered a view of Darjeeling, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern Bengal. He has represented the mountains covered with snow and mist. This painting is one of the landscapes in the monochrome ink wash technique, which is associated with specific Chinese and Japanese landscape traditions. It also recalls a statement from his book, 'Vision and Creation' on landscape painting, 'Landscapes can be painted in the manner of seas, with wavy heaps of stone and earth.'
