Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals or anything that he found fascinating. This sketch is a quick rendition of a woman caring her child on her waist. The artist has accentuated the rhythm of the image by using bold monochromatic brush strokes that delineate the fine contours of the female body. Nandalal has also made two template sketches on the side to study her posture.
