Nandalal Bose created a visual language with the use of monochromatic tones and simple brush strokes to model and bring out a corporeality of forms and substances. In this particular sketch, he shows a local village woman with her children, carrying a stick in her hand. The artist uses a series of diverse tones to render the serene landscape while the fluid brush strokes delineate the contours of the human figures.
