    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 45 8138 Nandalal Bose Pen and ink and pencil on postcard

×
Nandalal had firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of the nature and its ways is imperative. His smaller sketches are testimony of Nandalal's keenness to observe and his empathy for the environment in which he lived. The artist here has made the sketch of the leafy and root vegetable - Taro, commonly available in the countryside. The spread of the leaves is similar to an elephant's ear. The sketch is inscribed win Bengali bearing the local name of the plant as 'Mankochu'.
