A Sketch from Album No. 45 8146 Nandalal Bose Pencil on postcard

×
The above postcard illustrates a sketch of the bird- the Indian Roller, commonly known as the 'Neelkanth', meaning 'blue throat' in India. The above sketch is presumably either a preliminary sketch or a study, where the artist has marked and labelled the bird with specific colours and shades. With the use of subtle lines and shades, Nandalal adds grace and spirit to the form of the bird. Nandalal Bose in his book, 'On Art' has written- "Nature is life itself and teeming always with infinite variety; it is in her that the artist always renews his experience and finds an unceasing flow of inspiration."
