Nandalal Bose was indefatigable in his sketching routines which formed an adjunct part of his daily life. His smaller sketches are testimony of Nandalal's keenness to observe and his empathy for the environment in which he lived. These interactions between the different forms of nature characterise a large part of Nandalal's artistic corpus. In this sketch he has drawn a lotus bud with pencil on postcard. The light detailing on the petals of the bud lend softness and delicacy to it.
