Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In the above sketch Nandalal has depicted a plough and a leveller employed for the cultivation, rendered with linear, fluid pencil and ink strokes defining the contours of the objects, sparing much detail.
