Nandalal is known to have fervently sketched on postcard sized papers mostly using ink and brush, recording his surroundings. The above sketch by the artist depicts an old man carrying a few branches in one hand and his belongings over his shoulder. The composition is rendered with linear, fluid ink strokes, articulating the contours and suggesting the stance of the form while adding rhythm and vivacity to the sketch.
