This is one of the paintings from Nandalal's visit to Gopalpur, near Puri, on the eastern Indian coast of Orissa. He has rendered fishermen who are struggling with their canoe in the high tides of the sea with his spontaneous brushstrokes. In this depiction of harmony between human and nature, he has used the ink-wash technique learned from Chinese and Japanese art traditions.
