Nandalal Bose created a visual language with the use of monochromatic tones and simple brush strokes to model and bring out a corporeality of forms and substances. In this minimalist composition, he has depicted various canoes possibly on the seashore of Gopalpur, Puri. The fluid handling of the strokes suggests the influence of the Far Eastern art practices.
