    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 62 8632 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Through his various exploratory nature studies, as this one above, Nandalal Bose created a visual language through the use of monochromatic tones and simple brush strokes to model and bring about a corporeality of form and substance. His exploration of the different ways of delineating a line allowed him to experiment in representation of lines in its varying forms adding rhythm, vigour and life to the form of the figures. The fluid handling of the brush in subtle monochromatic tones give a textured rendition to the draped figures of the local women carrying baskets across their shoulders. The trees and bushes in the background are executed effortlessly with mere blotches.
