A Sketch from Album No. 63 8647 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Nandalal Bose had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, instantly recording in the post card sized papers his subjects from the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life, animals, flora and fauna or anything that he found fascinating. In this particular watercolour on postcard, the artist has delineated the contour of a pig with thick, coarse brush strokes although the handling is both fluid and firm. A. Ramachandran in the book, 'Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose' has written, "He made quick graphic impressions, often simplifying them to just few lines as he sought to understand the inherent structure of what he was seeing. At times he recorded objects in a more analytical way, while at others he transformed them into visual codes of pattern."
