    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 63 8650 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Nandalal Bose persistently undertook the study of the brushwork practiced by the artists from Eastern and the Western world. His rendezvous with international artists visiting Santiniketan and his own visits to other countries provided opportunities to understand the subtle nuances of each craft and the bold platform to enrich his vision and innovate at the same time. In the above monochromatic composition, Nandalal employs a variety of brush strokes and tones for the naturalistic rendition of a horse-cart paving its way through a vast field. Dinkar Kowshik in his article, 'Drawings and Sketches of Nandalal Bose', writes- "Much of his strength and sensitive wealth finds expression in the spontaneity of his sketches. They are a veritable treasure of shrewd observation, powerful calligraphy, psychological insight, rich sallies of humour and emphatic portrayal of the flora and fauna."
