    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 63 8652 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
Nandalal Bose persistently undertook the study of the brushworks practiced by the artists from Eastern and the Western world. His rendezvous with international artists visiting Santiniketan and his own visits to other countries provided opportunities to understand the subtle nuances of each craft and the bold platform to enrich his vision and innovate at the same time. In the above landscape, the perceptible representation of the date trees with their ridged surfaces is executed with a range of brush strokes that lends tonal variations and brings out the true form of the tree. The adept use of the inherent white space and handling of the brush to bring about the naturalistic form of the tree trunk and its leaves showcases Nandalal's prowess in the art of monochromatic painting.
