    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 66 8715 Nandalal Bose Brush and ink on paper

×
Here in this drawing, Nandalal has illustrated the high tides of the sea in varied tones of blue and black colour. Regarding the sea drawings, he, in his book 'Vision and Creation' writes, "The sea offers an endless, ever-moving image. At times, it looks like the thousand-hooded Anantanaga (primordial serpent), as it rears and hisses and then runs away; or like the unharnessed and wild horses of the sea-god, it seems to be prancing around. On the crest of the breaking waves one can get a glimpse of tongues of fire or the claws of a dragon. To catch this in a picture is, in a sense, attempting the impossible."
