Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. Here he has studied a woman carrying a pitcher on her shoulder. The fluid handling of the brush and its strong delineation in the calligraphic style defines the fine contours of the robust female body. Small, brisk strokes bestow the highlights of village architecture.
