    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 67 8743 Nandalal Bose Pen & Ink on postcard

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. Here he has studied the stance of a woman as she walks carrying a pitcher on her waist. The fluid, calligraphic strokes of the brush suggest the modelling of the female figure. In his book, 'On Art' Nandalal writes, "To acquire right knowledge and perception one should study men and animals when they are on the move or are active: when one can note in action the how and wherefore of the body's muscles, tendons and joints."
