As per the inscription, this postcard depicts an ascetic engrossed in reciting verses from the Ramayana, rendered in light and dark washes of watercolour that define his figure. Nandalal brings out the form of the deer in dark contouring lines and dabs of colour, who is shown listening to the ascetic in rapt attention.
