The above drawing showcases Nandalal's explicit draftsmanship. The traditional horse effigy, elaborate in its decoration is shown here being masterly maneuvered by the performer as part of the festivities in the villages. A war scene or a contest in war is portrayed involving three dwarfs whose depictions is also made. R. Siva Kumar in the book, 'Rhythms of India: The Art of Nandalal Bose' writes, "Endeavouring to breathe new life into the indigenous art scene that had been sapped by colonialism, he found in tradition a reservoir of imagination and techniques that could be tapped to unleash a groundswell of energies."
