Nandalal in his artistic career sketched fervently with either pen or brush, subjects ranging from mythic and religious themes to nature and social reality. The above collage depicts two sketches by Nandalal, the top sketch depicts an ascetic face with an inscription. The other sketch depicts Durga, a Hindu deity riding her mount. The illustration has been swiftly executed in bold, linear ink strokes that delineate the contours of the forms, suggesting the characteristic facial features and demeanour of the subjects.
