Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted few birds sitting on the tree in the foreground, executed in fluid, thick strokes of ink, suggesting the counters of the form. He has rendered the tree with the range of strokes in tonal variation that adds depth in the composition.
