A Sketch from Album No. 79 9014 Nandalal Bose Pen and ink and pencil on postcard

×
Nandalal had firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of the nature and its ways is imperative. His smaller sketches are testimony of Nandalal's keenness to observe and his empathy for the environment in which he lived. This pen and ink drawing of a herd of cows grazing through the pastures with storks in the foreground is executed in the calligraphic line drawing style and demonstrates Nandalal's keen observation of his natural surroundings. Nandalal as an artist evolved his visual language to bring out the spirituality, rhythm and coherence in his subjects rather than imitation in formal resemblance.
