    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 79 9016 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on postcard

×
This watercolour drawing is executed with quick brush strokes in the calligraphic line drawing style and demonstrates Nandalal's keen observation of his natural surroundings. Nandalal as an artist evolved his visual language to bring out the rhythm and coherence in his subjects rather than imitation in formal resemblance. The emphasis on the strong delineation of line was the influence of the Far Eastern art practices. Nandalal understood the significance of the use of lines and experimented frequently in their execution from fine lines to being thick contouring lines and executed in a calligraphic fashion.
