Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this postcard, he has depicted a beggar, walking with a stick and holding a bowl in his hand. This has been executed in fluid, bold yet firm ink strokes, suggesting the modelling of the form.
