Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. This postcard by him depicts a man draped in a shawl sitting on a chair and reading a book in his veranda. He has rendered the subject in thick, confident strokes of ink, suggesting the modelling of the form.
